The seafood chowder steals the show with its creamy, fresh flavor; patrons recall it fondly as a highlight of their meals. Others frequently mention the quality of the fish and chips, often considered the best in the UK—juicy fish wrapped in a light, crispy batter. The small plates, ideal for sharing, showcase a diverse range, such as scallops on black pudding and beautifully balanced fish cakes. Guests appreciate the friendly service, emphasizing how it enhances the overall dining experience. The atmosphere resonates with comfort, making it a spot they cherish.
While many love The Cellar, some critics point out potential wait times during peak hours. With its growing popularity, busy dinner nights may lead to longer service, though the friendly staff strive to keep the experience smooth. A few diners have mentioned the desire for more vegetarian options, particularly given the extensive seafood and meat offerings. Additionally, a handful of reviews note that the outdoor seating can get quite chilly, especially during cooler evenings, which might deter some from enjoying alfresco dining during those times. Overall, feedback remains largely positive despite these minor critiques.
We loved it here, especially the wine menu, he has a great selection and it went perfectly with my steak, which was cooked to perfection 🥰
Perfect meal! We chose a selection of small plates to share. The fish cakes were beautifully balanced with a light mustard sauce. Scallops on black pudding with a tomato based sauce were so delicious. The star was the chowder; creamy, fresh and homely. Absolutely divine! Couldn’t recommend highly enough!
It has been 5 month since I ate fish n chips at this exact restaurant. It’s the best fish n chips in the entire UK. The fish is actually fresh and juicy but the best part is the batter. I still think about it everyday. I thought I owe the store/service/chief a 5 star review. So I am making up for it. Sorry I don’t have a picture because I ate my food way too fast
10/10 meal Will be recommending to family and friends! Brilliant service, friendly staff and fresh food
Ate here this week and had an excellent selection of small plates. Food was lovely and all served with a smile. Seafood chowder was exceptional. Good value and a nice restaurant
This was our first experience of the Cellar restaurant and it was a good one. The food was wonderfully prepared and importantly tasted great. Service was excellent. Best to book as there wasn't a free table when we arrived at 7pm. Highly recommend.
Certainly the BEST kept secret of the area! Beautiful, quirky, deliciously tasty and perfectly made food. Accommodated our rather large party at very short notice this evening. The host was fantastic! Couldn't have asked for a better experience
